Overview

The first most prime important mission of the EC department is to produce the engineer to use their skill for entrepreneurship and for that our efforts will be to have the proper placement of the engineers through our MERCHANT ENGINEERING COLLEGE, BASNA. The second phase is definitely towards the R&D activities, which will be taken up by the EC department. The desirous student can take the guidance from the faculty for the Research the work for the award of their B.E. Degree.

The department comprises of electronic circuits, digital logic circuits, microprocessor, power electronics, wireless technology, digital signal processing, microcontroller, communication, VLSI, control system, telematics antenna, microwave engineering, TV and Radar lab, etc.

The faculty members take care of maintenance of the departments and also the active participation of the students in laboratory activities helps in upgrading their knowledge about the use of the kits. The department ensures that the student, on being a professional, should stand out with the pride of handling the most advanced and sophisticated equipment smoothly.

The Department of Electronics & Communication offers a variety of ways to concentrate in this field at the undergraduate level. We have Bachelor Engineering (B.E.) program in our institute.

About the Department

Electronics and Communication Engineering is an ever-growing sector in today’s digital scenario. It utilizes various tools applied in practical problems in the field of Electronics and Communication. The department of ECE in Merchant Engineering College was established in the year 2010 with an intake of 60 students.

The department consists of highly qualified and experienced faculty members with wellequipped and sophisticated laboratories to impart high quality technical education to the students.

The department embraces of Analog & Digital Electronics Circuits, Electrical & Electronics Measurement, Microprocessor & Micro-controller, Analog & Digital Communication Technique, Digital Signal Processing, Control System Engineering, VLSI Design and Microwave Engineering laboratories.

Telecom sector is one of the fastest growing sectors worldwide and the telecom engineers have career in industries like consumer electronics, manufacturing organizations, automotive, mobile communication and IT industries.

ECE students have lots of opportunities in government and private sectors. In addition as compared to other branches, there are more interdisciplinary specializations in higher studies for ECE students like Embedded Systems & IoT, VLSI, Wireless communication, Signal Processing, Robotics & Automation and Smart energy systems.

The jobs concerned with Electronics and Communication Engineering represent over 50% of all available jobs in engineering. With a basic knowledge and logic of programming, an ECE engineer can do wonders with training provided by these companies.

The aim of students pursuing Electronics and Communication engineering is to get a highly paid job thereby maintaining the sustainable and ethical environment. So improving skill set will definitely impact their pay scale a lot.

We have well equipped laboratories with the state-of-the-art research facilities, to support our academic programs. The department has strong collaboration with industries and reputed institutes. Infrastructure

The Department of E.C. has 11 high configured Laboratory with all updated Equipment’s. The Department's space is designed for flexibility and to allow easy further infrastructure expansion. There is sample space for laboratories and classrooms to support teaching and group interactions.

The Department has excellent lab facilities for students that make their knowledge over the texts more clear. Modern appliances and digital instruments make the students expert in new techniques in the field. The syllabus prescribed is based upon industrial demands and new ideas that features in today's competitive world. Students provided with modern facilities are expected to be a successful electronics engineer of the future. Engineers from this college are seen to perform efficiently in Industries as well as in research fields.

Laboratories

Electronics Devices & Circuits(EDC) Lab

This laboratory is intended for performing laboratory exercises and the mini projects for subjects like Basics of Electronics Engineering, Electronic Devices & Circuits and Electronic Circuits of the second year and third year under graduate students. It is well equipped with the sufficient numbers of digital storage oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, multimeters and electronic devices and circuits trainer boards and kits with peripherals.

Digital & Microprocessors Lab

This laboratory is intended for performing laboratory exercises for subjects like Digital Electronics, Microprocessor & Microcontrollers. It is equipped with Digital Electronics Trainer Boards, Microprocessor/Microcontroller Kits with peripherals. It has support for doing UG projects based on Embedded Systems.

Communication Systems Lab

This Laboratory is useful to understand the basic theories of Communication system. They are basically Analog Communication, Digital Communication, Wireless Communication/ Advanced Communication, Microwave and Optical Fiber Communication. Analog Communication trainers like DSB/SSM transmitter/ receiver, FM modulator/ demodulator, FDM trainer etc., are available to understand the fundamentals.

Signal Processing & Instrumentation Lab

This laboratory is intended for performing laboratory exercises for subjects like Digital Electronics, Microprocessor & Microcontrollers. It is equipped with Digital Electronics Trainer Boards, Microprocessor/Microcontroller Kits with peripherals. It has support for doing UG projects based on Embedded Systems.

Simulation Lab

This laboratory is intended for performing laboratory exercises for subjects like Digital Electronics, Microprocessor & Microcontrollers. It is equipped with High-end PC installed with latest software required for simulation.

Communication lab

Electronic and Communication, Audio Video Systems, Antenna and Wave Propagation, Optical Communication ,Telecommunication Switching Systems and Networks ,Wireless Communication, Satellite Communication.

Industrial Visit

The self-confidence of any student get significantly lifted when one actually witnesses the things working which are learnt in the institute. With a view to getting the feel of the industry, the institute every year, organizes industrial tours and invites the eminent persons from the industry.

The institute avails the benefit of visiting. Professor’s delivered series of lectures for the students and faculty of E.C. The institute invites field experts, prominent academicians and well known academic administrators to enlighten the students of the institute with their knowledge.

  • Prof. Namaswini Padhy delivered Seminar on the topic "Trends in RF& Wireless packaging" at Merchant Charitable Trust's Auditorium on 28 April 2022.

Personality Development

The institute is very much conscious about the overall development of the students. To ensure this, the management has hired consultants from the field to conduct Personality Development Program .The Program includes the topics like communication skill, General etiquettes, Telephone etiquettes, preparing for competitive exams, resume preparation, Interview skill and job oriented programmer etc.

Future Scope

Electronics Engineering is one of the core branches of Engineering studies started as Electrical Engineering. Most of the branches like Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Applied Electronics, Electronics and Instrumentation, Information Technology have been emerged as specialization from Electrical Engineering.

However, with the wide applications of Electronics in controlling and protecting the Electrical equipment’s and systems, the course has been renamed as Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

The scope of electronics and communication engineer is very high, in communication sector there are huge demand for ECE. One can get offers from IT industry, steel, petroleum and chemical industry. Telecommunication, airlines, defense are also major employers

Indian armed forces there are scope for electronics and communication engineer. Starting from telecommunication to satellite communication. You can join various Govt. & private sector.

For ECE student government jobs are available in large number as compare to CSE.

Electronics & Communication Engineering are in boom and having scope in many industries such as Airport Authority of India Limited, Indian Railway, SAIL, BHEL, GAIL and many more.
